IMS Luxembourg - Institut pour le Mouvement Sociétal

Our members

Why take part in IMS ?

As the natural stock market of Luxembourgish societies and the centre of quoted value of a large number of international principles, the Bourse de Luxembourg feels that it is important that it should contribute, alongside other actors, to the promotion of Corporate Social Responsibility. The knowledge that the Bourse de Luxembourg has, at national and internal level, motivates us to join the values that stand for the Institute for Societal Movement in Luxembourg.

Which place does Corporate Social Responsibility hold in your company ?

Schemes in term of CSR are carried out at various levels.

A first sphere of intervention is that of corporate management, namely the principles, which the administrators and managers apply in order to fulfil their functions in a spirit of integrity and efficiency. The ten principles of corporate governance cover the role and the composition of the corporate administration boards, the committees that can emanate from these, such as audit, remuneration and nomination committees, as well as from their management boards. Amongst other things, they take care of the relations that must be upheld between shareholders and investors.

A second area of intervention concerns the initiatives taken by the Bourse de Luxembourg to support sustainable finance. This is how the Bourse became one of the founding members of LuxFLAG, an active agency in the area of microfinance, as well as of the LIGFI (Luxembourg Institute for Global Financial Integrity), whose aim is primarily to promote integrity within the financial market.

In the same spirit, the Bourse de Luxembourg participated in a conference entitled “Sustainable Stock Exchanges” on 2nd November 2010. This conference, which was held at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York, united hundreds of participants and had been organised jointly by the “Conférence des Nations-Unies sur le Commerce et le Développement” (CNUCED, Conference of the UN on Commerce and Development), the organisations “United Nations Global Compact” (UNGC) and “UN PRI “(Principles for Responsible Investment), as well as the World Federation of Exchanges. The Bourse de Luxembourg expresses its total support of the variety of initiatives launched by the United Nations Organisation and its agencies in the areas of socially responsible investment. The Bourse is furthermore determined to pursue its efforts in order to endorse this form of investment.

A third pillar is the promotion of activities and behaviour supporting to the philosophy of sustainable development.

What are your CSR policies and frameworks ?

The Bourse de Luxembourg and the Verkéiersbond have a deal, which allows the employees of the Bourse de Luxembourg to take advantage of the special transport M-Pass (“Mobilitéitspass”, mobility-pass). The M-Pass is an annual reduced-price subscription, intended exclusively for the employees of corporations and administrations on Luxembourgish territory and valid throughout the whole national network of public transport. By signing the partnership convention, the Bourse de Luxembourg promises to promote public transport and tackle all travel-related issues linked with the corporation. With a total of 134 employees of 9 different nationalities, and some of them living in the neighbouring countries (France, Germany, Belgium), the Bourse de Luxembourg is proud to uphold its procedure of general social responsibility through this initiative.

A second initiative, with the same importance, is the Bourse de Luxembourg’s decision to subscribe to the LEO’s certificates of renewable energies following the RECS (“Renewable Energy Certificate Systems”) certification. This decision, which was taken on 30th June 2008, covers the Bourse’s electricity consumption period from 1st January 2008 to 31st December 2012.

The electricity supply rests on the ECOMIX formula of the LEO company, which has delivered certificates for hydroelectric energy and biomass energy (produced on Norwegian and Dutch sites) to the Bourse de Luxembourg.

The Bourse de Luxembourg wishes to contribute to the promotion of renewable energies in Luxembourg.
The last and most important CSR feature is tightly linked to our human resources policies. For a couple of years now, the Bourse has kept setting up instruction programs intended for the entirety of the staff. At a different level, the company has decided to offer its employees regular medical exams, as a matter of early prevention and to allow the staff to receive advice and recommendations.
